In honor of today's day on the the Maya calendar, Ix, women from Guatemala and other parts of the world started the agenda with indigenous ceremony.
Honrando el día del calendario Maya hoy, Ix, mujeres de Guatemala y otras partes del mundo empezaron la agenda con ceremonia indígena.
Throughout the day false solutions for climate change were derided. "You can't create market solutions to climate change," was highlighted by the first panel of the day. A rejection of the REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) proposals and any commercialization of natural resources has been a major theme in all of the alternative Cancún activities. The struggles of communities were the focus of the second panel of the day, providing an opportunity to hear the voice of groups from Mexico. As in Guatemala in the case of the Xalalá dam, many communities are fighting against dams such as the Zapotillo in Jalisco, Parota in Guerrero, as well as the Endho dam reservoir of toxic waste in Hidalgo. Supportive cheers and chants rang out throughout the communities' presentations.
Se enfocaron en las luchas de comunidades en la segunda plenaria del día, con la oportunidad de escuchar las voces de grupos de México. Como en Guatemala en el caso de la represa Xalalá, muchas comunidades están luchando contra represas como Zapotillo en Jalisco, Parota en Guerrero y también el embalse de aguas negras Endho en Hidalgo. En respuesta a estas voces comunitarias, se escucharon consignas y gritos de apoyo por todo el foro.

En el transcurso del día, se rechazaron las soluciones falsas al cambio climático. "No se puede hacer soluciones al cambio climático con el mercado," fue subrayado en la primera plenaria del día. Rechazo a las propuestas REDD (Reducción de Emisiones procedentes de la Deforestación y la Degradación de los Bosques) y cualquier mercantilización de los recursos naturales ha sido un tema principal en todas las actividades alternativas en Cancún. Emiliano Zapata is quoted as saying, "The land belongs to those who work it." At La Via Campesina's forum, farmers shared their struggles in defense of their territories and the lands they work, cultivate and protect.
